Environmental Recycling Commitment
WEEE Compliance UK is committed to preventing landfill. All equipment processed is handled in a fully compliant way and will either be Reused or Recycled. Latest figures demonstrate that over 98% avoids landfill significantly exceeding any of the targets currently set out in WEEE Directive.
Reuse
WEEE Compliance UK specialises in breathing new life into old equipment. When customers wish and when appropriate, items will be refurbished and either resold or donated to charitable causes. In many cases we are able to offer customers a financial return.
In other cases equipment can be 'torn down' and components harvested to be sold as spares.
Environmental Recycling
Cathode Ray Tubes (CRTs)
CRT monitors, classified as hazardous waste in the European Waste Catalogue and in the Hazardous Waste Regulations, are dismantled and used as flux in the copper refining industry – currently this is the most efficient and cost-effective technology available for CRT monitor disposal.
Plastics
Plastics vary widely in the grade of the resin and toxicity. Wherever possible plastics are processed and cleaned for reuse, typically in applications where colour matching is not essential; for example the manufacture of agricultural drainage pipes.
Mixed plastics are often used to fuel waste-to-energy processes.
Metals
There is a high incidence of ferrous metals such as iron and steel in IT and communications equipment and other appliances. This material is often reused in the metals industry.
Non-ferrous metals and small quantities of precious metals are present in many electronic components. Metallurgical and mechanical processes recover almost all of these metals for re-use as raw materials.
Packaging
There are often large volumes of packaging waste associated with redundant IT equipment. Specialist machinery is used to process cardboard, polystyrene foam and plastic wrapping/packaging for reuse in their respective industries. Waste paper, such as user manuals, is also recycled for use in the paper industry.
We are proud of our commitment to providing the most environmentally sound disposal solutions available in our sector and we constantly review our processes and examine new technologies to achieve this.
Please see our legislation section for more information on why it's important to partner with a professional disposal partner.
